在众家大厂中，ESET NOD32 5的硬件需求是相对较低，占用系统资源也少，但是不只防毒功能够水准，别家该有的功能也一个不少，尤其像是家长控制、 USB病毒防护、WI-Fi防火墙，以及防打扰的玩家模式都具备，界面也重新设计，这些都让它从内到外都更加轻巧好用。ESET Smart Security 5在防毒功能上，以新增了HIPS（主机入侵防御系统）最受瞩目，能让使用者自定义在何种情况下，要允许或封锁特定不明档案，虽然设定较为复杂，但是这种行为分析功能加上其网路过滤侦测能力，确实能够有效阻止新的恶意程式攻击。
ESET Smart Security 5也加入了热门的云端运算技术，提出了ESET Live Grid云端预警系统，主要是根据从使用者社群收集而来的声誉资料，判断电脑系统中档案的安全性，包括风险层级、使用者多寡、第一次在社群中的发现时间等等。
